Wati weather
Tropical Cyclone Wati. This was a predicted path, but Wati did its own thing and followed a much more easterly path.path
We've had the first cyclone of the season; although it was pre-season really as the official season begins on 1 November.
The name was Tropical Cyclone Wati and it was relatively weak, a category 2 which later downgraded to a category 1 and then reverted to being a tropical depression.
It passed directly over Aitutaki causing damage to the harbour.
On Rarotonga it brought wind and rain and the rain was most welcome as we've had something of a drought recently.
The wind was sufficiently powerful that Air New Zealand cancelled the Sunday flight. The rescheduled plane arrived on Monday afternoon and holidaymakers could be seen rushing to the beaches to enjoy the beautiful weather and calm lagoons.
Let us hope that any future cyclones are as mild as Wati proved to be.
